Our Phlebotomy Services for individuals with IDD are designed for clients who may experience anxiety, sensory sensitivities, communication differences, or difficulty remaining still during a blood draw. Whether your loved one has had distressing experiences with medical procedures in the past, needs extra time and preparation, or simply does best with a familiar, patient, and predictable approach, we're here to make the process as calm and manageable as possible.
With over 20 years as a certified phlebotomist, we take a person-centered approach to every visit. We work with you and, when helpful, with caregivers or support staff, to understand the client's specific needs, communication style, sensory preferences, and any strategies that have worked well in the past. Draws take place in the client's home or another familiar, quiet setting, allowing for a comfortable position and pace that reduces stress and supports a successful visit.
We believe preparation is key to a positive experience. We take time before and during the appointment to explain each step in a way that matches the client's understanding, use comfort measures and pacing suited to individual needs, and remain flexible if breaks or a slower approach are needed. We work collaboratively with caregivers throughout the visit to help the client feel safe and supported.
After the draw, we handle labeling, documentation, and transport of specimens to the requested lab or physician's office, so you can avoid an additional trip.
Because the level of support and time required varies significantly from client to client, pricing depends on the amount of assistance needed during the visit. A brief consultation is required before any appointment is confirmed, so we can understand the client's needs, discuss the best approach for a successful visit, and provide accurate pricing.
